Bombshell Nightlight, Walk Light
Another glimpse of what Blue Heron Above Me has to offer. In new single Walk Light, Bombshell Nightlight sings on quotidian distraction and isolation caused by the hyperconnected nature of technology. In a rock-and-hard-place dilemma of overthinking online v. overthinking in person, Bombshell Nightlight comments on the weight of forming relationships in a world that is becoming increasingly connected and increasingly isolating at the same time. A catchy, upbeat track accompanies the vocals, giving the song an uplifting feel despite the lyrics.
Todd Donald ft. Rosie Cerquone, Rumspringa
Rumspringa is about The Channel 101 Show, written in the style of ABBA. Tod Donald composed the piece and Rosie Cerquone sings vocals. Akin to a musical, Rumspringa takes characters from the short film and then expands on their development outside of the short. The song focuses on the main character of the short film after her Rumspringa and subsequent return to her Amish community.
False Teeth, Bumpy Winter and a Dream of a Meadowlark
In their debut single, from the VIII Aspen Grove Projection album, False Teeth speaks on personal connection and parallels between the older and younger generations. Bumpy Winter and a Dream of a Meadowlark features the deep connection False Teeth has with their grandfather. Childhood stories and gentle reminiscing carry the track, while thin synth accompanies the stories. For the next three weeks, False Teeth is going to be releasing tracks from their new album.
Dougie Fir, The Basement
Dougie Fir’s new album, Basement, sweeps the listener up into the story of the album. Told through the looking glass of a basement hangout, Dougie Fir expands upon moments of his life as if speaking directly to you. The breaking of the 4th wall in conjunction with the manipulation sweeps the listener along with the album, saving them a space as the voyeur. Dougie Fir expands a moment into all the intricate details that comprise it, and then whips the listener back into real time. From horns to string quartets: the tracks are variant and beautiful, adding a wonderful scope of sound to the album.
Albums
Miley Cyrus, Plastic Hearts
Blondie? Do you mean Miley? Electric guitar influences and alt guitar is featured like never before in Cyrus’ new album. Singing on love and possession, artists such as Dua Lipa and Billy Idol accompany Cyrus in Plastic Heart. Classic rock and New Wave influences bleed through in heavy guitar and synthesizer. Included at the bottom of the album are Cyrus’ TikTok famous covers: Heart of Glass and Zombie.
The Smashing Pumpkins, Cyr
In their new album, Cyr, Smashing Pumpkins incorporates themes such as self reliance, love, and change. New Wave influence lies in long tones underneath the lyrics, warming the tone of the album. Lyrics sing about a lover throughout the album, explaining the highs and lows of their relationship. Written in the second person, Smashing Pumpkins alludes to the intricacies of their emotions, always keeping the listener at a distance.
